In my previous post I failed to address the question in the title. But we did cover the importance of and reason for roof drainage systems.
Now let’s get to the reason why the local Mr. Rooter or sewer snaking / jetting / cleaning company would not or could not clear your downspout drain line. Well, they didn’t used to be such an important component of the build when older homes were being built. In fact they are still an afterthought. They simply were not plumbed in the same way as sanitary sewer systems. The code governing sewage plumbing dictates that sewer lines must be put together with pipes that are large enough to be snaked / scoped and they have wide radius turns and fittings that won’t block the snake or scope line. New construction drainage systems are now required to be built that way with very similar design requirements.
So these service companies know that they may not be successful in clearing older downspout drains. They don’t want to disappoint their customers so they send them our way knowing that there is a 50% chance the system may need to be repaired or replaced which requires more than an inspection. A lot of times the old downspout drains just drain into the soil and if they are not adequate anymore they have to be replaced. So there you go!
I hope you made it through my previous blog post . . . I’m new to blogging.
